Room: Molise 4 & 5
Description: This workshop delves into the transformative journey of women in the male-dominated fields of engineering and technology over the past 50 years as perceived through the music of the time. From Helen Reddy's iconic anthem "I Am Woman" to Taylor Swift's thought-provoking hit "The Man," this session explores the changing challenges and coping mechanisms that women in STEM have faced and developed to manage dealing with an evolving bias landscape. The workshop is a celebration of music as a tool for personal and societal transformation, especially for women in STEM.
Learning Objectives:
Explore how coping mechanisms of women in engineering have evolved from quiet resilience to more assertive empowerment, as reflected in the evolution of popular music
Recognize the intersectionality of gender with race, ethnicity, and other factors, and how it has influenced coping strategies over time
Engage in a thought-provoking discussion about the workshop's themes, contemporary tools, resources, and support systems available to women in engineering and technology today, enabling them to thrive in these fields
