Description: We all know the personal and professional benefits of being SWE members, but relatively few SWE members hold leadership roles each year. Anecdotally, members have cited lack of awareness of the types of Society-level leadership roles, unknowns related to time commitment, skills needed, and responsibilities, and an inability to negotiate commitment to leadership roles with employer, as reasons holding them back. SWE leaders develop critical personal and professional skills, build their network, and have visibility into and agency over how SWE fulfills our mission globally. These skills can be HUGE differentiators in your day-to-day work and your career potential in the long term. Join this session to hear from 5 SWE leaders about how they charted a path through their past and current SWE roles, leveraged the Leadership Competency Model, and applied their new skills and networks to their daily work and career growth.
